Data protection remains an important issue for cloud solutions

A new resolution from privatim shows what public authorities need to consider when using international cloud providers.

pubCloud solutions are also being used more and more frequently by public authorities. This means that data is no longer stored on their own servers, but with external providers. Particular caution is required when dealing with sensitive personal data.

The Swiss Data Protection Conference Privatim points out that it can be difficult to fully control data protection with international cloud providers. In addition, foreign laws may mean that authorities abroad can access this data under certain circumstances – even if it is stored in Switzerland.

According to privatim, such cloud solutions may only be used if particularly sensitive data is encrypted beforehand. This means that the data is rendered unreadable and only the public authority itself has access to it.

You can read more on this topic in the resolution issued by privatim on 24 November 2025.

We are happy to support organisations in using cloud solutions in a secure manner that complies with data protection regulations.
